Neon Nights/Valkyries/Radillac/Trigger Itch

DOWNLOAD SHOW HERE!

July 28th
Featuring:

NEON NIGHTS (WA)
THE VALKYRIES (WA)
CURTIS PLUM (boise)
RADILLAC (boise)
TRIGGER ITCH (boise)

This was a good one. Not only did we have two
amazing rock and roll bands from Seattle,
we had two of Boise's best punk rock bands
and an amazingly talented rapper to boot.
The recordings are mostly very good on this show
and you can feel the energy leap out of your speakers
(or i guess headphones if you're working or your wife is home)
and into your earhole. Everyone had a good time, I have
only positive things to say about this show.

Let's get crackin

RADILLAC

BOISE, ID

As we say in the podcast, Radillac always
plays first. In this case it was a good thing, though--
they set the bar for the chaos and energy that
would follow for the rest of the night.
Good Cranberries cover from an album
that AMG gives 2 stars and that I
give credit to for a lot of my nightmares.

TRIGGER ITCH

BOISE, ID

When you describe someone as
"Trigger Itch drunk" you know they
are a fucking booze champion,
like some sort of outer space gladiator
who has defeated a giant slime monster using
only a sharpened stop sign.
Needless to say, Trigger Itch is
fucking radical and fucking drunk during
this recording.

CURTIS PLUM

BOISE, ID

Curtis just so happens to be on
Strange Famous records, which means
maybe he shouldn't be slumming it with us
at the Gusto. Instead of worrying about
demographics and record deals, Curtis
drank a little bit, plugged in his MP3
player and made everyone laugh til they hurt
with his amazing lyrical and vocal talents.
He got up between each band and laid down a few songs,
which kept the evening moving along at a perfect pace.

THE VALKYRIES

SEATTLE, WA

I'll be honest with you. There's often a shortage of
X chromosomes at Skate Night. The Valkyries
might be the only all-female band we've ever had.
When we were done blushing and texting our friends and
tweeting that we "saw actual girls" that night, we rocked
out as hard as we could to the face-melting, trashy
punk rock of the Valkyries.

NEON NIGHTS

SEATTLE, WA

The Valkyries are a hard act to follow,
but Neon Nights managed it somehow.
The slab of raw, dirty rock and roll they
served up to Boise can only be described as
'bloody and disease infested in the best possible way.'
I'll leave it at that.

In the Red/Anchor Down/Bastards of Young/Aces and Eights/Bully

Download Show Here!

July 22nd
Featuring:

IN THE RED (CA)
ANCHOR DOWN (WA)
BASTARDS OF YOUNG (CA)
ACES AND EIGHTS (boise)
BULLY (WA)

Another all punk rock show. This one was good but sort of exhausting.
A lot of these recordings weren't as great as they could be...
but I think Bully turned out especially well.

This is the longest podcast I've uploaded so far, it's
well over two hours long.

Without further ado:

IN THE RED

SOMEWHERE, CA

I can't find a website for this band, but I thought they
were great. They reminded me a little
bit of Samiam, Hot Water Music and
other such things that helped me grow
into the misanthrope I am today.

ANCHOR DOWN

PORTLAND, OR and SEATTLE, WA

These guys were great, too. Their brand of
punk rock was earnest and gritty, they followed
In the Red very well.

BASTARDS OF YOUNG
SACRAMENTO, CA

Bastards of Young play booze-fueled
punk rock anthems that even your time
traveling straight-edge embarrassment
of a past self from high school would pump
a fist and sing along to.

ACES & EIGHTS
BOISE, ID

Listen to the end of their set for a string of covers.
They played a long but rowdy set that the
crowd seemed to enjoy thoroughly.

BULLY
SOMEWHERE, WA

If anyone can find a website for this band,
let me know. These kids rolled through
and tore the place apart. They surprised everyone.
If you listen to just one band from this podcast,
fast forward to the end and catch Bully.

NEXT WEEK:
Radillac, Trigger Itch, The Valkyries, Neon Nights

Antagony/Fallujah/Cast Into Finality

Download Show Here!

July 1st
Featuring:

ANTAGONY (ca)
FALLUJAH (ca)
CAST INTO FINALITY (boise)
SLAIN IN SILENCE (boise)

This was a pretty rad show. Cast Into Finality joined us in the
studio for this episode, they filled in some gaps about
the evening that we forgot and offered insights into
the music of Fallujah and Antagony. Antagony and
Cast Into Finality's sets are the best recordings so far in the series.

No pictures this time-- if Justin has them, he's holding out on us.

Thanks again to Cast Into Finality for their time in the studio.

ANTAGONY

Antagony played a great set, but I remember a lot of people
left before they played. It was sort of a slow night anway,
but it's at least a lesser tragedy that more people
didn't see them play.

FALLUJAH

Noisy, loud and young-- Fallujah brought
a substantial underage audience to see them (who watched through
The Gusto's garage-door of windows) and wowed
the barflies inside of the venue.

CAST INTO FINALITY

They played a great set: raw and brutal. They'll be
opening for Cattle Decapitation at the BSU Amphitheater on
October 8th. Again, they co-host this episode with us... so
download the podcast already!

In the Red, Anchor Down, Bastards of Young,
Aces and Eights, Bully

Runnamucks/SuperAIDS/Libyan Hit Squad/Admant Allies/Hummingbird of Death

Download Show Here!

June 24th
Featuring:

SuperAIDS (fl)

LIBYAN HIT SQUAD (fl)
RUNNAMUCKS (fl)
ADAMANT ALLIES (boise)
HUMMINGBIRD OF DEATH (boise)

Finally, an all punk rock episode of Boise Skate Night.

I don't have a ton to say about this show. I really enjoyed it,
but the touring bands were (understandably) bummed out--
not many people showed up. Everyone (especially Adamant Allies)
played really well, but there was just kind of a sour mood during this one.

I've linked all of the bands' myspace pages above... we don't have
any photos from the evening. It's a good podcast for sure-- you'll enjoy it
and if you don't I WILL EAT MY HAT.

CONTEST!

Guess how many songs Hummingbird of Death
played during the 2 and a half minute segment we
included in the podcast and win a $20 bar tab
at Gusto! Email boiseskatenight@gmail.com
with your guess!

Next Week: Antagony, Fallujah, Cast Into Finality

Runsfasterscared/Lost Apparitions

Download Show Here!

July 10th

featuring

LOST APPARITIONS (ia)
RUNSFASTERSCARED (co)

UNHALLOWED (boise)

This is our second show. Manville never played, Unhallowed was great
(but we missed recording their set) and each of the touring bands'
sets were both high octane throat-punching hellrides.

RUNSFASTERSCARED
Pueblo, CO

A great band with insightful things to say about Colorado,
dog shit and touring as a tightly wound rock and roll unit.
This show had insane energy, which was in large part due to RFS. As
with Fire on the Plains, their myspace page says they're no longer
together. I can't speak for everyone in every state,
but I know Boise will miss Runsfasterscared.
Listen for a special "girls gone wild" section of the interview.

Lost Apparitions
Dubuque, IA

Sadly for these boys, they gave their first ever
interview to me. At my best, I am bumbling and
unprofessional. While somewhat shy and somewhat
tired from the road, they took it in stride and answered me
to the best of their ability. I hope they tour this way again,
their live show was anything but shy and tired.

Next Week: Adamant Allies, Hummingbird of Death, SuperAIDS,
Libyan Hit Squad, The Runnamucks

Truculence/Fire on the Plains/Nocturnal Slaughter/End of All Flesh

Download Show Here!

JUNE 3rd 2009
featuring

TRUCULENCE (or)
FIRE ON THE PLAINS
(ca)
NOCTURNAL SLAUGHT
ER (or)
SLAIN IN SILENCE
(boise)
END OF ALL FLESH
(boise)

The first Boise Skate Night podcast is
here!

This show features interviews with Fire on the Plains and Tru
culence, as well as full live sets from End of All Flesh, Nocturnal Slaughter, Fire on the Plains and Truculence. My apologies to Slain in Silence-- we didn't get a recording of your set (but you'll be on the show in the future).

FIRE ON THE PLAINS
Los Angeles, CA

Myspace Site

According to their website, their last show is on October 5th (my birthday no less) which is a shame. They were a great band, as the recording can attest to, and really cool and funny guys, as the interview can attest to. And yeah, they probably own the most stylish van in the greater LA area.

TRUCULENCE
Portland, OR
Myspace Site

Dan from Truculence is one of the nicest death metal singers I've ever met (and contrary to what your Sunday School class led you to believe, most death metal singers are sweethearts) and his band takes no prisoners. Seeing Truculence is brutal death/grind assault with a healthy dose of horribly offensive comedy in between sets. If you listen to this podcast, do yourself a favor and get the unedited one.

END OF ALL FLESH
Boise, ID

Myspace Site

I think their set speaks for itself-- they helped make June 3rd a great show. Jon is a great guy who helps me out with the door from time to time. And, as the podcast says, their drumset is impossibly huge.
